Good for
- Editing an iPhone photo without adding JPG compression
- Apps and design tools that need PNG input
- HEIF images with transparent areas, such as cut-out subjects
Expect a bigger file
PNG is lossless: it stores every decoded pixel exactly, so a PNG is usually several times larger than the HEIC and larger than a JPG of the same photo. Choose HEIC to JPG if you only need a photo that opens everywhere.
What PNG can’t do
Converting to PNG doesn’t restore detail. HEIC is a lossy format, so whatever its compression removed is already gone; the PNG keeps the picture exactly as it was decoded, without losing any more.
Transparency, colour and metadata
Transparent areas in a HEIF image stay transparent in the PNG. The colour profile is copied into the PNG, and the image is turned upright using the rotation stored in the file. EXIF metadata such as GPS location, date and camera details is not copied.
What happens to your files
Your files are opened and processed by your own browser. They are not uploaded to TextVix or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the tab. Downloads are created on your device.

Questions about HEIC to PNG
More answers in the TextVix FAQ.
Is HEIC to PNG lossless?
The PNG step is lossless — no further detail is lost. It can’t undo the compression the HEIC file already used.
Why is my PNG so much larger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses modern lossy compression; PNG stores every pixel exactly. For photos, a PNG of 5–10 times the size is normal. Use HEIC to JPG for smaller files.
Are transparent backgrounds kept?
Yes. If the HEIF image has an alpha channel, the PNG keeps it.
What if my file contains several images?
Only the main (primary) image is converted, and the result says how many images the file held.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The HEIC decoder is downloaded to your browser and your photos are converted on your device. TextVix never receives them.
