How to Convert iPhone HEIC Photos to JPG
iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but plenty of computers, apps and upload forms still can’t open them. Here’s how to turn HEIC photos into JPGs — and how to stop the problem at the source.
Open HEIC to JPGStep by step
Get the original HEIC files
On a computer, copy the photos from iCloud Photos, a USB transfer or AirDrop. On an iPhone or iPad you can pick them straight from Photos or Files in the next step.
Open HEIC to JPG
Go to the HEIC to JPG tool. It brings its own HEIC decoder, so it works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari even if your computer can’t open HEIC.
Add your photos
Drop up to 30 photos on the upload area, or press Choose files. Each one is checked first; anything that isn’t a readable HEIC file is listed with the reason.
Choose a quality
Leave Quality at 90 for photos that look like the original. Lower it to 75–85 if you need smaller files for email or uploads.
Convert and download
Press Convert to JPG. Each result shows a preview, its dimensions and file size. Download the JPGs one by one, or all of them as one ZIP.
Make your iPhone take JPG photos
In Settings → Camera → Formats, choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG (and videos as H.264). Photos you have already taken stay HEIC. Some features, such as 48-megapixel or HDR capture on recent models, need High Efficiency.
Let your iPhone convert when it shares
In Settings → Photos, under Transfer to Mac or PC, choose Automatic: photos copied to a computer over a cable are converted to JPG. Sharing from the Photos app to many apps and websites also converts automatically, but AirDrop and iCloud keep the HEIC original.
What changes in the JPG
The picture is turned upright, the colour profile is kept, and metadata such as the date taken and GPS location is left out. If a file holds several images (for example a burst), only the main one is converted, and the result tells you. HDR photos become standard 8-bit JPGs.
Other ways to do it
On a Mac, open the photo in Preview and choose File → Export → JPEG. On Windows, the Photos app can open HEIC once Microsoft’s HEIF and HEVC extensions are installed from the Microsoft Store, and can then save a copy as JPG.
Try HEIC to JPG

Frequently asked questions
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is lossy too. At quality 90 the difference is very hard to see; the JPG file is usually larger than the HEIC.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on an iPhone?
Yes. Open the tool in Safari, choose your photos from Photos or Files, convert, and save the results to Files or Photos.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The decoder runs in your browser and your photos never leave your device.
